The Minister of Women’s Affairs: Our first priority is to protect women victims of occupation violence and crimes

The Minister of Women’s Affairs, Ms. Mona Al-Khalili met with the Minister of Social Development, Dr. Samah Abu Own and they discussed intersectionality, partnership and cooperation between the two ministries to serve Palestinian women and their issues of political participation, social and legal protection and all various forms of empowerment.

 

Upon that, Ms. Al- Khalili stressed that the first priority of the Ministry of Women's Affairs at the current stage was to protect women victims of the violence and crimes of occupation, especially the war of genocide and atrocities against women in the Gaza Strip and in the West Bank. 

 

She also, stressed that the consequences and effects of aggression on women, supporting them and exposing violations of the occupation against them requires cooperation, complementarity and harmony between the various official and civil institutions, particularly the Ministries of Women's Affairs and Social Development.

 

Moreover, they focused on ways to support women in the Gaza Strip at various levels, along with institutional arrangements to achieve that and opening up to a genuine partnership with civil society institutions, and other parties in the Palestinian society. And, activate national inter-ministerial committees and mechanisms to ensure decent outputs for Palestinian women's status.

 

  They also discussed intersection files and common issues, and how to achieve policy and programmatic coherence on protection, relief and empowerment in women's best interests.

 

On her part, Dr. Abu Own has shown full willingness to cooperate and coordinate between the two ministries, particularly in the area of relief, support and protection for women in the Gaza Strip. Then, she presented the programs and activities of the Ministry of Social Development in these areas.

 

Also, she stressed the Ministry's readiness to cooperate in reviewing and developing legislation, policies, regulations and procedures relating to women in order to ensure the advancement of Palestinian women at various levels.

 

Lastly, they concluded the meeting by it agreeing to complete the discussion on the various issues and intersections between the two ministries in order to arrive at a clearly defined and actionable plan.
